I have been a Facebook user for the longest time! Though
there are other new social media trends like Snapchat and Instagram, but
Facebook is still holding strong. When I input the term school library a lot of
library media specialist groups popped up. I was also able to find school
library profiles that keep the school community updated about all school events
as well recommendations for summer readings for students who are at
home.Although my school district has a Facebook page to keep the school
community informed of current news and events, it does not focus on specific
school or give out reading recommendations, especially now that it is summer.
that is something I plan to change when I become a librarian. Facebook is a
great way to keep students and their parents informed and updated.
Though it is a very famous social media
platform, I can honestly say I am fairly new to twitter. Though I have used it
before, for educational purposes, it still seems a bit complicated for me. Though
I am more than willing to learn. I see a lot of celebrities, educators,
authors, artists, etc. use this to communicate by updating their statuses and
locations and I see it is a hit. Millions of people use Twitter to the best of
their advantage. That’s what I plan to do. When I was checking the page of the
suggested people we follow, I was able to see how many awesome resources they
offer. From names of awesome authors and their books, to resourceful websites, activities,
and ideas for the classroom.
After looking at Jim Lerman’s twiiter page, I just couldn’t help but notice this tweet. We recently did a report on scholar practitioners and this reminded me so much of it. Learning through the world and learning away from it. So inspiring.
My Twitter Yay!
This post stood out to me amongst all the rest. We recently did a report on "scholar practitioners" and this image reminded me so much of it. Learning through the world and learning aside from it.
It also reminded me of how diverse our students' minds are. Both sides of this image represent the uniqueness of each student and their learning abilities. Their is no wrong way to learn or view the world. May your interpretation and be as unique as you are.

Instagram
I
have to say, I really enjoy Instagram. Why? It kind of reminds me of pinterest.
It gives you the ability not just to search but, it also gives you suggested
instagram accounts that are relevant to your previous searches. Using Instagram
for the class and from the classroom would be really incredibly great. Not just
for teachers to share but to get ideas as well. I work with Elementary
students, but I do have friends that work with high schoolers. Some students
tend to forget about homework and classroom projects and might be too shy to
speak up. I believe this social media platform would be a great means of
communication for students. Most students have Instagram and posting daily homework
details or reminders of upcoming projects.

Hello fellow LSSL 5391'er! I loved the colorful pictures you added in to support each section.. especially of the little tots! I, too, have had a Facebook for years, but tend to veer towards Instagram for some of your similar reasons.
ReplyDeleteOut of all of them, I think, for the younger generations, Instagram would be the most beneficial to reel them in. What do you think?
Utilizing these platforms are going to be a new adventure for me. I appreciate your insightful reflections. They help me to better understand ways I could use FB, Twitter, and Instagram.
ReplyDeleteInstagram is definitely my favorite social media tool! Although my parents like FB for information, I feel that I can have fun and showcase stuff about my students and my own journey in education on IG and I get more responses because my students are all on that platform!
ReplyDeleteFacebook being my avenue of choice probably shows my age, but I think it's a great way to keep in touch with parents! The students on the other hand, would probably prefer the other two. Your Instagram posts just support one of the reasons why it might be easier to reach them using one of those platforms. Great Info!
ReplyDeleteEventhough I have moved on from Facebook to other social medias, I still believe it is the mother board of all of them. I still can't seem to get completely disconnected from it. I post once in a while and when I do, it is for major things. However, seems like our youth has moved on to other like Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat. I would love to see how other are using Snap into their lessons.
ReplyDeleteI personally am much more comfortable using Facebook compared to Twitter and Instagram. There are pros and cons to each platform, it's about finding the one that meets your needs. I do feel Instagram is much more visually appealing and that it would be easier to connect with students.
ReplyDeleteI'm more of a Facebook user than Twitter/Instagram as well. I agree that there are strengths/weaknesses to each platform. I feel that as librarians we will have to be more active on Instagram as most teens use that app daily.
ReplyDeleteI love the Instagram pics of your kids sharing their love of reading!
I had never thought of it, but Instagram does feel a lot like Pinterest! I love Pinterest because of how visually appealing it is and Instagram is the same. I agree with you, it would be an excellent platform to communicate with students, teachers, and parents. Instagram is a great PLC!
